Summary on the 12th Conference of the Network of Latin American Researchers in Cooperatives – EILAC 2022

From 27 to 29 July 2022, the 12th Meeting of Cooperative Researchers was held in Curitiba (Brazil) under the theme "The future of cooperatives and the cooperative movement of the future: identity and resilience in (post)pandemic time".

Promoted by the Latin American Network of Cooperative Researchers, the meeting was coordinated by researchers from the University of São Paulo USP (Brazil), the Regional University of the Northwest of the State of Rio Grande do Sul UNIJUÍ (Brazil) and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). It was organised at the headquarters of the Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR), with the support of twelve academic institutions in Brazil and one in Argentina, and with the sponsorship of nine Brazilian cooperative institutions.

At the opening conference on the 27th, the academic representatives Adriane Vieira Ferrarini (Unisinos), Aguinaldo Nogueira Maciente (ILO) and Luiz Carlos Beduschi (FAO) spoke.

In the following days, four panels were held with the participation of researchers and experts from Brazilian and foreign institutions.

At the same time, research work was shared on the following themes: Identity and cooperative education; Governance and management in cooperatives; Cooperativism as an instrument for sustainable development; and Innovations, technological transformations and the cooperativism of the future.

With a total of 455 participants from six countries, 187 papers were presented in person and at distance, and 30 in poster format during 20 sessions, including three parallel meetings of young researchers.

In all areas, questions were raised about the forms and types of cooperativism that are emerging in the countries of the region. The main responses coincided in the need to promote a cooperative movement with greater racial, gender and cultural diversity in general, with the capacity to promote innovative developments in the search for greater sustainability, which also innovates in the construction of coalitions in the different territories.

In this way, the different scientific spaces and the various activities were articulated with the aim of building a research agenda that involved the main interests and problems proposed during the meeting.
