Many people have written much of Robert Owen – countless books and articles are testament to that. He has variously been described as a scholar, entrepreneur, social reformer, economist and trade unionist! But for some he was the original co-operator. He is acknowledged by most as one of the founders of the British co-operative movement.

8th International Microinsurance Conference

From 6 to 8 November 2012, the 8th International Microinsurance Conference will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This event is hosted by the Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Network. Around 400 participants and experts from around the world will exchange experiences and discuss the challenges of microinsurance. They include representatives from insurance and reinsurance companies, international organisations, NGOs, development-aid agencies, academics, policymakers, regulators and supervisors.

CO-OPERATIVES are an integral part of Jeremy Rifkin's strategy to revolutionise the energy market. According to Rifkin, a leading international economist, EU policy advisor and activist, taskforces must be set up urgently by co-operatives to establish a plan to implement his renewable energy regime.

"We need to see this moving very aggressively in the coming 12 to 24 months because we are running out of time," Rifkin said in an interview with the ICA Digest in April 2011.
