Five young scholars win CASC scholarships

Five students were selected among several applications for the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation scholarships this year.

• Jayne Bergeron from Carleton University received the $3,000 Amy and Tim Dauphinee Scholarship to support her research on women’s empowerment through the production of fair trade coffee in agricultural co-operatives in Tanzania.

• Caterina Bettin from Saint Mary’s University received the $1,000 Alexander Fraser Laidlaw Fellowship for her research on women in executive positions in the co-operative financial sector

• Kenji Tokawa from the University of Ottawa received the Lemaire Co-operative Studies Award for his contribution towards advancing the study of co-operative law.

• Chantal Hanson from the University of Ottawa received the second Lemaire Co-operative Studies Award for her involvement with the NORANDINO co-operative in Peru.

• Kiran Pal-Pross from the University College of Cork in Ireland received the third Lemaire Award for her application of the co-operative model to the provision of medical marijuana in Canada.
