First National Cooperative Congress

The cooperative sector in Nepal has been recognized by the Nepal Government as one of the pillars among three pillars (Cooperative, Public and Private) of national economy. At present, there are 29,546 primary cooperatives, 285 district level cooperative unions, 17 central level cooperative unions, one National Cooperative Bank and one National Cooperative Federation in Nepal (NCF/N) as an apex body of Nepalese Cooperative Movement.

The Co-operative Wholesale Society began 150 years ago with a tea party at Jumbo Farm in Middleton. At our Jumbo Fairtrade Tea Party families can celebrate this anniversary and find out about Fairtrade today!

There will be a wide range of activities for all ages including making a Play-Doh cake, hosting a mini tea party, decorating a Fairtrade cookie and making a Fairtrade badge.

From Jumbo Farm to Jam Factory

The Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS) celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. This temporary exhibition will explore the early development of the CWS from its origins at a Jumbo Farm tea party to its position as a major manufacturer.

Find out more about the people who helped to create the CWS, the difficulties they faced and their successes. Take part in interactive games and activities as you follow the exhibition through the museum, hold a tea party to learn more about the CWS Preserve Works in Middleton and share your own memories of the CWS.

VSS & VJ COOP FED International Cooperative Day Celebrations

Viveka Service Society, a voluntary organization working for the last two decades in formation of community based organizations. 20 thrift cooperatives were formed during the last 15 years and a Federation of Cooperatives in the name style of VJ MACTCS Fed ltd., also formed. Near about 45 thousand families were benefitted through the activities. for the last 9 years VSS has been celebrating the International Cooperative Day Celebrations in different places in its project area. Seminars, Public Meetings and Publications were some of the activities taken up under the programme.

Heritage Open Days, Pioneer Grave Promenade

Fifteen of the original 28 Rochdale Pioneers are buried in Rochdale Cemetery. Take a stroll around a selection of the graves with staff from the Rochdale Pioneers Museum. You will find out about the lives of the individual Pioneers buried there and their contribution to the co-operative movement.

Heritage Open Days, 'If These Walls Could Talk...'

Join Gillian Lonergan, the Museum’s Head of Heritage Resources, for a peek into the history of 31 Toad Lane, the Rochdale Pioneers Museum on its journey from a woollen warehouse to the world famous birthplace of the co-operative movement which attracts visitors from all over the world. The building has undergone major changes at four times over the last two centuries including the recent development project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the session will look at some of the challenges experienced.
