People-centred businesses: Making Supply Chains work for Small Producers

The seminar "People-centred businesses: Making Supply Chains work for Small Producers" will take place at the European Parliament. Organized by Cooperatives Europe and the Fair Trade Advocacy Office, the seminar will aim to create a much-needed space for discussion around the risks and opportunities of the private sector working in development. It will highlight the advantages for EU Institutions and other actors to partner with people-centred businesses, such as cooperatives.

‘Big energy: small energy? The role of collaboration for EU’s energy transition’ high-level policy conference

On 26th June, Cooperatives Europe and Rescoop will organise ‘Big energy: small energy? The role of collaboration for EU’s energy transition’ high-level policy conference. This event will take place at the European Commission within the European Sustainable Energy week (EUSEW). The day before, on 25th June, the energy working group will meet in Brussels in order to present all their previous actions and to plan the next steps.

Lecture Programme - Anniversary of the Wembley Pageant

2013 sees the 75th anniversary of one of the most remarkable International Co-operative Day celebration events held in the UK – the Wembley Pageant. Organised jointly by three of the Co-operative Societies in Greater London (London, South Suburban and Watford) and held at the recently opened Wembley Stadium, the pageant involved over 3,000 artistes and drawn mainly from co-operative auxiliary organisations, and was enjoyed by an audience of over 60,000 people.

Lecture Programme – Feminist's in the Early Co-operative Movement 1830-1844

Michael Herbert looks at women such as Frances Morrison Catherine Barmby and Margaret Chappelsmith, who wrote and lectured on the rights of women in the early Co-operative movement.

Michael is a Trustee of the Working Class Movement Library in Salford. His book “Up Then Brave Women” Manchester’s Radical Women 1819-1918 was published in October 2012.

Lecture Programme – Co-operative Architecture

The focus of the talk will be the evolution of co-operative central premises buildings in the North West of England in response to their members’ needs. It will also examine the question ‘What did these buildings mean for the co-operative movement, and how were they achieved’?.

Potential and Limits of Social and Solidarity Economy

As interest in alternative production, finance and consumption grows in the face of global crises, this conference will explore the potential and limits of Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) — organizations such as cooperatives, women’s self-help groups, social enterprise and associations of informal workers that have explicit social and economic objectives, and involve various forms of cooperation and solidarity.
